Age Based Stereotyping

"When seniors are convinced becoming old means becoming useless, helpless or devalued — they are less likely to seek preventive medical care and die earlier...." - A study

Age based stereotyping is also known as Ageism, or age discrimination. Robert Neil Butler defined it as a combination of three connected elements -
  • Prejudicial attitudes towards older people, old age, and the aging process
  • Discriminatory practices against older people
  • Institutional practices and policies that perpetuate stereotypes about older people
